Understanding Water Baptism.
The word "baptize" is from the greek verb "batizo" which means "to immerse." Simply stated, to baptize is to totally immerse an object in another substance and then bring it out again. So to baptize a person in water is to totally immerse his or her body in water and bring it out again. The significance of water baptism is that it symbolizes the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus and our identification with him in them.
When we believe in the Lord Jesus, we fully identify with what happened to him ( Romans 6:4-6). Water baptism is a physical act that marks the mind of the believer with the reality of his union with the Lord Jesus Christ. It gives the person being baptized the opportunity to openly testify his born-again experience to others. It serves as an outward testimony of an inward grace. The believer has been crucified with the Lord Jesus, buried with him and raised with him to walk in a newness of life. (Galatians 2:20 ; Romans 6:4).
Please let me quickly clear a common confusion here. We should be baptized in the Lord Jesus Christ's name. But before leaving earth, in Matthew 28:19 the Lord Jesus commanded the disciples saying:
"Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son , and of the Holy Ghost." This verse is usually mistakenly uses to prove that God is 3 persons in 1. But we now know after deep and careful study of the whole bible that God is not a Trinity. God is not 3 distinct persons in 1: Jesus is the Father! Jesus is the Holy Spirit! What is the name of the Father? Jesus! (John 14:9, John 12:45, John 8:24, Isaiah 9:6, Colossians 2:9).What is the Holy Ghost's name? Jesus!(please read Acts 20:28 , John 14:18, Matthew 18:20 and John 4:24).
Therefore be baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost means the same as be baptized in the Lord Jesus' name alone. Since the Lord Jesus is God, anyone baptized in his name is baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit, the Holy Ghost, the Wonderful, the Prince of Peace, the Master, the LORD, the lord, the Lord, the lORD, the LORD OF LORDS, the KING OF KINGS, the Son of Man, the First and the Last, the Counseler, the Redeemer, the Savior, the Bright and Morning Star, etc....see?
God is one person (alone alone, alone), not 3 different persons , no. He has power to change into spirit, invisible, to come to churches that are praising his strong name his name. JESUS IS THE HOLY SPIRIT!!! JESUS IS EVERYTHING!!!!!
Don't be therefore confused my friend, when the Lord Jesus self-assign many different titles. For more details concerning God's oneness, please visit our God Is Not A Trinity webpage.
Please remember that the Lord Jesus chose to humble himself (Philippians 2:8) and let honor aside, wanted to appear to us as one of us, did not want to brag his divinity; therefore even though he the King, He is the Father (John 14:9, "He that hath seen me, Jesus, hath seen the Father."), even though He is the Holy Spirit (John 14:18), he made himself nothing and "sat down on the back chair at the meeting, let someone else call him to come the front seat." Be not therefore confused, it is not a big deal, when the Lord Jesus said be baptized in the name of the Father, Son & Holy Spirit, it is an act of humility, he simply chose to not be proud and brag that he is the King, though he is.
You do not have to be water-baptized to be saved. You do have to do anything to be saved beside believing in the Lord Jesus's death, burial and resurrection because of your sins, Faith Alone In Jesus Alone.
There are 2 types of baptism: Baptism by the Holy Ghost, and Water baptism. Many people confuse water baptism with baptism into the Body of the Lord Christ ( being saved). When a person believes the Gospel that the Lord Jesus is God who came to earth to die, be buried and rose again to pay the penalty of his sins in full, he or she is born again and baptized by the Holy Spirit into the body of Christ right right away. This is not water baptism. This is the baptism mentioned by Peter in Acts 2:38 and many peoples confuse this spiritual baptism with water-baptism. Water baptism is not the baptism that saves and it is not required for salvation. It is the precious blood that the Lord Jesus shed which cleanses us from sin. (Hebrews 9:22 ) A person must be baptized by the Holy Spirit (saved) before water- baptism.
